AIE recently provided roadway and bridge engineering services to MassDOT on this roadway resurfacing and bridge repair project. Scope of work included evaluation of existing conditions and recommendations for improvements for a 2.8-mile section of roadway, including 301 ancillary structures (lights, signs, and traffic signals), and four bridges. Bridge structure types comprise a steel thru truss bridge and a steel thru girder bridge over railroad tracks and two steel multi-girder bridges over roadways. Bridge work included bridge deck condition evaluation including a Ground Penetration Radar (GPR) survey, recommendations of repairs as well as the preparation of plans, specifications, and estimates for repairs of Bridge Nos. S-17-024 (4E3), S-17-039 (4E6), S-17-039 (4E5) and S-17-022 (4E2) in Somerville. Bridge repairs include deck repairs, miscellaneous concrete repairs, joint replacement, railing repairs/replacement, wingwall/retaining wall parapet replacement, scupper relocation/replacement and miscellaneous roadway improvements such as curb and median repairs.
