AI Engineers, Inc. (AIE) provided design services for a new 400LF driveway to the existing substation in order to allow for material delivery via a low bow truck and maintenance access during the Breckwood Substation Upgrade and System Resiliency Improvements project in Springfield, MA. AIE worked with the City to obtain driveway and tree removal approvals. Additionally, AIE provided the design of two retaining walls to minimize the proposed excavation limits and stabilize the cut slope.

Once the design was complete, AIE assisted Eversource with the preparation of an erosion & sediment control plan in accordance with the Commonwealth of Massachusetts requirements.

The environmental characteristics of the site included working with the confines of an existing substation and the underground features such as conduits and grounding grids. The site also had a number of trees that needed to be removed to permit construction of the new driveway.
