stratford, ct

AIE is providing construction engineering and inspection services at Interchange 33 on I-95 in Stratford, CT. The project involves widening the existing NB Exit 33 off-ramp (Ramp ‘A’) from one lane to two, a new I-95 SB off-ramp (Ramp ‘C’) which places traffic at the intersection of Ferry Boulevard and Veterans Boulevard as well as new I-95 NB on-ramp (Ramp ‘B’) from the intersection of Ferry Boulevard and Barnum Avenue cutoff. This will give the Exit 33 Interchange full ingress/egress to NB and SB I-95. A new GRS-IBS structure (Bridge No. 7011) is being constructed carrying the new I-95 Southbound Ramp ‘C’ over Route 1 (Barnum Avenue cutoff) NB and an existing structure (Bridge 00134) is being widened to accommodate the NB I-95 on-ramp (Ramp ‘B’). To facilitate the widening of Ramp ‘A’ and construction of Ramps ‘B’ and ‘C’ cast-in-place retaining walls are being built in conjunction with a soil nail retention system. The retaining walls will be capped with a Precast Barrier with a cast-in-place moment slab. The project also entails constructing 4,100 lf. of pile-supported and structure-supported precast noise barrier walls. The project involves the reconstruction of NB and SB Ferry Boulevard and Barnum Avenue cutoff which requires the upgrading of traffic signals as well as new drainage systems.

AIE’s scope of work involves ensuring that the performance of the contractor is in conformance with the plans and specifications for the project. A part of this included working with the Contractor’s Quality Control Team to monitor assurance of all materials used for the project to ensure they conform to the contract specifications and meet the ‘Buy American’ requirements. AIE is responsible for testing all concrete for air, temperature, and slump and casting all cylinders for strength and permeability testing. AIE inventories all materials delivered to the project and ensures that all pieces delivered are accompanied by the required testing documentation and submits to the CTDMT for approval and assists with the reviewing of all concrete mix designs. AIE will be responsible for the final close-out of the project in accordance with CTDOT requirements which will include the acquisition of the final material certification.
