MTA TBTA RK-66 Robert moses building boiler house
new york, ny
AIE, as part of the TBTA RK-66 contract for Design-Build Services for Electrical Upgrades at its RFK Facility, provided mechanical engineering services for this energy improvement project. The project included the replacement and relocation of the Robert Moses Building (RMB) boilers mechanical room. This entailed the removal of existing boilers, boilers to support the operations of the building, and the construction of a new boiler room at the Robert Moses Building on Randall’s Island in Manhattan, all above the 500-year flood plain.
AIE, as the prime designer on this project, designed (2) 3000 MBtu/hr Low-Pressure Steam boilers to replace the existing boilers and replaced (4) 2500MBH basement boilers in a prefabricated boiler building. A separate boiler house was added to house an above-ground fuel tank allowing boilers to operate continuously and minimize downtime to critical infrastructure.
