NYCDOT Brooklyn Bridge Rehabilitation
New york, ny
AI is part of the design-build team, as prime designer, for the rehabilitation of the Brooklyn Bridge, which is a cable-stayed/suspension bridge in New York City and one of the oldest bridges in the United States. The Brooklyn Bridge spans the East River, connecting the boroughs of Manhattan and Brooklyn. AI prepared temporary design drawings for portions of the bridge that included over 80 diaphram repairs. AI staff also reviewed contract drawings, means and methods of staging of construction, and provided design calculations. Our staff suggested an alteration for the Main Street span replacement during construction that eliminated the need for temporary supports for the promenade slab. We also provided design for temporary plating and scaffolding. AI conducted measurements for shop drawings for the repair of the catwalk that included over 100 sheets. During field review, a number of deteriorated conditions were found for which AI was asked to provide drawings.
