LaGuardia International Airport Airside Utility Engineering Design
AI is providing airside utility engineering design for the redevelopment of LaGuardia International Airport in Queens, NY. AI’s scope of work includes the design of domestic water, high-pressure fire service, sanitary sewer, 5kV power, and gas utilities serving the north side of the new Head House, Concourse A, and the connecting utilities to Concourse B. Our design addresses the utility mains, building connections, utility services to jet way areas, and related appurtenances. We are also preparing the utility removal and abandonment plans to accommodate the construction of Concourse A and the airside utilities.
AI’s role includes extensive coordination with other utility enabling projects, connections to other proposed utilities on the airside portion of the project, and working with the project architectural and facility utilities groups to align the various utilities with their respective building entrance locations. There is a tremendous amount of existing utilities, with limited record information in many cases, and the designs must accommodate the need to provide continuous utility service to the airport throughout the project. In addition, as a design-build project, the design team is working closely with the contractor to resolve issues and conflicts as they arise in the field and providing locations for subsurface exploration to mitigate unforeseen conditions.
