P.T. Barnum Railroad Station
AI is providing mechanical, electrical, plumbing, and fire protection design services for the Environmental Permitting and Conceptual (15%) Design Services for this new commuter rail station project. The scope involved code review, schematic design plans, and specifications to meet ConnDOT and Metro-North Railroad (MNR) submission standards.
This proposed P.T. Barnum Station (Barnum Station) would be a second commuter rail station in Bridgeport, strategically located in one of the most underutilized areas of City’s urban core: the site of the former Remington Arms Ammunition factory along Barnum Avenue. It would support identified regional transportation and development objectives by improving access to area transit and serving as a catalyst for redevelopment in the City’s East Side, East End, and adjacent neighborhoods.
The proposed Barnum Station will be constructed on the New Haven Line, which is owned by the ConnDOT and maintained by MNR. The proposed Barnum Station site is adjacent to the MNR New Haven Line right-of-way, located along Barnum Avenue between Seaview Avenue and Pembroke Street in the East Side neighborhood of the City of Bridgeport.
The design services included new facility lighting systems, new facility power systems, and a fire/security alarm system for the new station building, platform, and surrounding parking areas. New mechanical heating and cooling systems as well as plumbing and roof drainage systems were part of design for the new station. Electrical power for the station elevators and new low-voltage electrical systems, such as telephone and data, are also part of the design.
In addition, the surrounding site is being developed with parking, lighting, and sidewalks to coordinate and blend in with the City’s Remington Arms TOD Structural Evaluation and Adaptive Reuse Study.
