Stamford Urban Transitway (SUT)

Stamford, CT

AI Engineers, Inc. (AI) provided land surveying and construction inspection services for the Stamford Urban Transitway (SUT). The SUT provides a much needed east/west connector south of the Metro-North tracks between Atlantic Street and Elm Street as well as improved access to the Stamford Transportation Center Railroad Station and Parking Garage.

The AI's Survey Group provided services for both the Stamford Bus Terminal and Train Station Parking Garage addition.
Upon review of the construction design plans and field checks utilizing the survey control from the plans, AI determined problems with the vertical control and brought this to the attention of the Stamford Engineering Department.  The designer was then notified to resolve those issues.
During the construction process, AI’s survey periodically checked the work being done by the contractor and compare this work to the design plans to ensure its accuracy. As-built locations of new utilities being installed along this corridor were also acquired to generate an accurate map of this data for future reference by the engineering department. These on-call requests for surveying services were coordinated by a resident engineer and other inspectors on-site.
