Department of Veterans Affais Dietetic Kitchen Upgrades

West Haven, CT

AI was retained by the VA Connecticut Health Care System (VA) to provide design services for dietetic kitchen environmental upgrades on the existing 1940s kitchen located in Building #1, a seven-story facility on the West Haven campus. No significant upgrades to the kitchen had been made since its original construction. As part of the design services, the existing conditions of the kitchen and existing M /E/P services were documented and the kitchen staff interviewed, and our subconsultant performed a hazardous materials evaluation of the kitchen. AI, in conjunction with our architectural subconsultant, developed a complete kitchen redesign that incorporated a multi-phased construction approach to allow the VA to maintain full kitchen operation throughout the entire construction period. AI provided mechanical, electrical, and structural design services and managed our architectural and hazardous materials subconsultants to provide the final design for the VA. The project scope of work included:

  • New kitchen equipment layout
  • Hazardous materials abatement
  • Demolition of existing kitchen 30,000 cfm hood/HVAC system
