City of NorWich Pleasant Street over Yantic River
AI Engineers provided survey, engineering design, and construction inspection services for the rehabilitation of Bridge No. 04745, Pleasant Street Bridge over Yantic River in the City of Norwich. Originally constructed in 1968, the bridge is a two-span structure made up of multi-steel girder superstructure with a cast-in-place reinforced concrete deck supported by reinforced concrete abutments on spread footings.
Prior to performing field survey and mapping, AI conducted research at City Hall and used GPS to establish horizontal and vertical survey control on site for design and construction purposes. AI also performed topography on and around the existing bridge as well as cross sections in the Yantic River below for use by the Hydraulic Engineer. All existing storm drainage lines were required to be located and mapped, to be protected during construction. Closing the road was necessary for bridge repairs while protecting an active railroad at the southerly end of the bridge. Existing easements and property lines were established and mapped in order to create a new temporary easement for construction.
